A 40-year-old woman from Nerul in Navi Mumbai lost nearly Rs 7 lakh after sharing her one-time password 28 times over week with a fraudster who called her up pretending to be a bank official.

 The woman, Tasneem Mujjakkar Modak, told the police that she didn’t know anything about online banking, reported a leading daily. 


    Modik had Rs 7.2 lakh in her account with a nationalized bank and on May 17 she received a phone call from a man pretending to be a banker who told her that her card had been blocked for ‘technical reasons. He asked for her card details to unblock her debit card.


    Modik provided all details to her caller including the 16-digit debit card numbers, her name and even the 3-digit CVV number which is supposed to be kept controversial.


    Over a week, Modak shared 28 OTPs with the caller who swindler her of Rs 6,98,973. The woman lodged a complaint at Nerul station on May 29 where an FIR has registered. The police said transactions were carried out in Mumbai, Noida, Gurugram, Kolkata and Bengaluru.


    The caller used three different SIM cards to contact Modak. Banks often send out notifications to its customers asking them no to share their card details with anyone, including bankers.
